The Gumball Music Festival Documentary
In 2014 The Gum Ball returned for it's 10th anniversary. Hosted by The Johnston family on their property 'Dashville' at Belford NSW. Despite a lot of hard knocks, the festival has continued to evolve over the years. To be known, by its passionate audience as one of the best boutique music festivals, not only in Australia, but in existence.
THE PROJECT
The Gumball Music Festival for its 10 year anniversary wanted to produce a documentary film to highlight the ups and downs they go through each year trying to bring the festival to fruition. They approached Newcastle based media agency 'GMRX Media' which whom I have worked extensively with over the last few years and together with myself as Senior Camera Operator the wheels were set in motion for this documentary.
PROCESS
This documentary project involved a lot of work in the lead up to 'The Gumball Music Festival' through a series of chats/talks with key individuals involved in bringing the event to life. To tell the story of their journey to the 10th Festival we needed to meet them a few times in the lead up, to get the continuation of the journey and an idea of this enormous task.
During the festival, all stops were pulled to make sure we immersed ourselves in the entire festival weekend, bringing along 4 operators to cover the event from Friday afternoon through to its end on Sunday. Headlining the festival for this special occasion was Australian rock legends 'The Hoodoo Gurus'.
FINAL PRODUCT
The full documentary is now in post-production. But in the meantime, the video above is a trailer for the 10 year anniversary using some of the footage from the sitdown interviews.
